I am a personal historian specializing in video projects.
Before establishing Forever Tree Films, I decided that I wanted to learn more about my late grandfather, Bud Clipsham. He passed away when I was 18. So without knowing anything about the field of personal history at the time, I sat down and interviewed my parents about grandpa Bud. I learned so much I hadn't known, and I loved doing it. Then I made a beautiful photo book that has become a treasured resource for my family. I was too late to interview my grandfather; however, the photo book became a treasured resource for my family.
From there, I was hooked. After subsequent book projects about the legacy of two friends, I joined the Association of Personal Historians and launched my business. Now that I make documentary films, I think of how much more I would have loved to have some video of grandpa and his stories the way he told them. There’s nothing quite like seeing the “whole person” the way you can on video.
Professionally, I have always been drawn to the art of the interview. I spent the early part of my career as a career counsellor, working with everyone from late-career baby boomers to university students to at-risk youth. I’ve always taken pride in being able to draw the best out of my clients in each interview. At Forever Tree films, I take that interview material and create a film that honours each story.
I live in Guelph, with my wife Jenn and two beautiful children.
People I serve may need a unique gift for an upcoming birthday or anniversary, or they may have parents or grandparents who are getting older and have wonderful stories to share. It’s my passion to help you get the job done before it’s too late, so those treasured memories can last forever.
We all just had a good cry watching the tribute you carefully pieced together. The weaving of the interviews with the photos was so well done. You have a great talent, and this is something we will treasure forever. Thank you for all your work. - Josie M, Woodbridge, Ontario
